Even In life

Mortician Alexandria Fairchild prefers a room temperature personality to dinner and a movie. But her quiet reality changes she dies and wakes up infected with a vampire virus. Forced to undergo government experiments, Alex is released into a society that both fears and loves her. But when she accidentally kills her pre-death reconciliation therapist, she begins to experience death--and life-- in a new and sensationally powerful way.

As Alex tries to re-establish ties with her old life, her fear of being outcast is quickly replaced with the discovery that many people, including her closest friend, Detective Shane Kelly, want to be vampires, too.

Under the suspicious eyes of a sadistic government official named Swindle, pressure from an ex-boyfriend who can’t quit drinking long enough to grieve, and the fear of being forever trapped inside her own corpse, she thinks death can’t get any worse.

But when she meets Hogan, head of the Wormwood Vampire Clan, he suggests her death was not an accident but planned by one of the people closest to her. Alex must now choose a life in constant suspicion of her friends, or death as a vampire with the man who infected her.

about the book

Even in Life is the first book in a modern, neo-vampire urban fiction series.  It was originally created to be a standalone book as an entry into NaNoWriMo 2007.  Once it was completed, the story evolved into a three book series that spanned a fictional eight years in the near future.  With a fourth book in production, it is hard telling where I might go next.
